英国キングスカレッジ研究チームは、喘息発作の沈静薬ステロイドが効かない死と隣り合わせの患者に、ビタミンD3の併用が有効であるという研究結果を発表した。

一般に、喘息患者は発作の際に、吸入器具を使用してステロイドを摂取する。しかし、病状の程度や体質的な理由などからステロイド錠剤を服用しなければならない患者も多い。このステロイド錠は、著しい副作用が以前より問題視されているだけでなく、多量に服用しても重度の喘息患者には全く効き目が無いという「効果の限界枠」が存在する。ところが今回の研究によって、ビタミンD3サプリメントの併用がステロイドを後押しする効果を発揮し、副作用を軽減するだけでなく深刻な喘息の症状に於いてもステロイド治療が有効になることが判明したのだ。更には、喘息自体の症状の緩和も確認されたのである。

Asthma Patients Resistant to Steroid Treatment Benefit from Vitamin D3 Supplement

Researchers from King’s College London have found that vitamin D3 could substantially improve the responsiveness of asthma sufferers who do not respond to steroid treatment with the great risk of dying from repeated asthma attacks to the steroid treatment, encouraging them with the hope of their recovery.

Generally, asthma is treated very effectively with inhaled steroids. However, some patients need to take steroid tablets instead to control their condition due to their physical reasons. Taking the tablets sometimes causes severe side effects, and patients with serious asthma fail to show clinical improvement, even with high doses of oral steroids, limiting their treatment options. This time, the team’s results implied that steroid treatment works to even serious asthma condition by adding vitamin D3 with no side effects. Moreover, it led to the improvement of asthma’s condition itself.
